I bought his nine months ago on December 31, 2016. I am a jazz bass player who at the time, was moving from electric bass to upright.
I got the 1/4 size instrument as a transition instrument to a larger size. It sounds great. The musicians I play with in my gigs around town have often complemented me on the tone, even when I play with an electromagnetic pickup. The uprgrades Atlantic Strings gave me for the price were also helpful — carbon fiber tailpiece, end pin, adjustable bridge and Hellicores. Going with a smaller instrument even though I’m a grown man got me out gigging within a couple months. And it helped me get past that frustrating period when your body rejects the 3/4 size upright (I’m an electric bass player of 25 years). But I’ve been gigging regularly with it for pay and I have no regrets with the instrument so far. Atlantic Strings was very helpful and patient with me as I learned about the construction of the instrument, and even how to play it. Their luthier spent time with me and Paul, who works the floor is an upbright bass music teacher. He gave me a lot of good pointers that helped me believe this instrument was possible for me. Overall, very happy, although I sometimes wish I’d gotten the VB-150 which has an ebony fingerboard. But I didn’t want to break the bank on something so experimental as moving onto upright bass.
